A Visit to the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Senior Services Department

As a SAGECare Platinum-Certified organization, Pallas Care is dedicated to supporting older adults within the LGBTQ+ community. One incredible resource that adults (age 50+) in the LA area have access to is the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Senior Services department. The department offers an incredibly large range of services to older adults in the community, from cooking classes to laundry services to social events like dances. These services and many more can be accessed by registering with the Center, either in person or online at this link. Registration is open to all adults aged 50 or older.

Pallas Care co-founder and CEO Jennifer Dawson was actually inspired to start this business after working at the Center from 2015 – 2019! The Center is staffed by individuals who have completely committed themselves to creating a warm, welcoming space for the community to enjoy and find comfort in. It is a space that fosters community and gives ample opportunity for individuals both similar and different to them. A variety of different support groups are offered both in-person and on Zoom, for groups such transgender individuals, Latinx members of the LGBTQ community, adults living with HIV, and many more.

Some of the key services offered by the Center are:

  • Case management: receive assistance with health services, signing up for benefits, housing consultation, mental health services, and more. Case management is by appointment or drop-in services are available Monday through Thursday, 10am – 5pm.
  • Shower & laundry facilities: showers and laundry machines are available free of charge at the Center.
  • Meal services: Monday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., meals prepared by the Center’s culinary arts program are available for eating in the spacious dining area or takeaway.
  • Housing: The Center operates two affordable housing facilities for older adults, more than 200 apartment units between Triangle Square and the Ariadne Getty Foundation Senior Housing Facility, both located in Hollywood.
  • The Center also offers workshops for individuals looking to find affordable housing in the community.
  • Employment assistance: Job coaching, vocational training, resume workshopping, job searching, and interview practice are only a few of the services offered by the Center to assist older adults in the workforce.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center is an incredibly valuable resource for older adults in the LGBTQ+ community. For more information about accessing Senior Services, you can visit https://lalgbtcenter.org/services/senior-services/ or drop by the building at 1118 N. McCadden Place in Hollywood.
